This work is a performative navigation of memory, particularly family history, in its layers, in how it is remembered and transferred, and the subsequent process of clarifying, revealing and loss. Beginning with a curious probe into my family history and heritage through a family portrait, it sent me on a journey of learning about people and places I did not know I had connections to and introspecting parts of my lived identity. The video captures the process of cleansing and clarifying what lies within a family portrait, while my hands, as extensions of my mind and emotive states, take over to reveal connections and disparities, amid the inevitable fallibility of memory. What is left is an artefact, in its remnants of erasure, reflecting a fragment of time where I am making sense of the larger workings of memory.
